Judge commended for Kane sentence
I commend Judge Wendy Demchick-Alloy for imposing an appropriate prison sentence on disgraced former Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane.
Like many elected official felons before her, Kane betrayed the public trust, making a mockery of her 800-employee office and negatively impacting the lives of those who served under a self-appointed tyrant.
Kane clung to office for as long as she could, sullying it with every day that she “served,” this long after having been stripped of her ability to practice law. She made the fatal error of being unrepentant after her conviction, foolishly telling reporters that she “had no regrets.” Now, only as she faced sentencing, did she seem to have regrets as tears flowed.
She chose to decline to testify, but shamelessly trotted out her pitiable 15-year-old son to state how devastating it would be to the family if she were sentenced to prison. As the judge appropriately stated, this boy was collateral damage in his mother’s crimes.
To conclude that the former attorney general had been punished enough and to dispense house arrest or probation to her would be tantamount to dismantling the justice system as it applies to white collar criminals.
It is another sad day in the history of our corrupt Commonwealth, but justice has been served.
