Moore likely getting what he deserves
It is gratifying to witness the crumbling U. S. Senate campaign of twice-ousted Alabama State Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore, the king of sancitmony and theocracy, who now faces credible accusations from multiple women as to inappropriate if not unlawful conduct in which he engaged when he was in his 30’s and they were teenagers as young as 14 years of age.
Moore has believed himself to be above the law, defying court orders to remove religious symbols from his courtroom, which prompted him to twice be ousted from his position. He is opposed to immigration, Muslims, and believes in criminalizing homosexuality and abortion rights. In a pluralistic country, he seeks to impose his religion on those of other faiths and those of no faith. Although he was not initially endorsed by Donald Trump, he had been Trump’s choice for this seat after Trump’s candidate was defeated. Trump’s endorsement says a great deal and it should be the kiss of death.
If the allegations against Moore are true, he is a part of the large wing of Republican men whose credo is “Do as I say, not as I do.”
Roy Moore deserves what is likely to be his fate when the election takes place in his state next month, a reliably Republican seat becoming Democratic. Such ignominy could not be inflicted on a more deserving man.
