Renewed faith in America

2 min read

Just a few short weeks ago, the news was showing the worst case scenario in these United States — hate groups bashing each other both physically and verbally. It seemed as though we had not come very far from those horrible Civil Rights days.

But in the throes of Hurricane Harvey, and now Irma, my faith in the America I know and love has been reaffirmed. We are first and foremost a nation of caring, generous people, first on the scene whether at home or abroad. We care about the lives and livelihood of others. Our hearts go out to the victims of so much loss in the flooded areas. The collection plate is quickly taken and we give, not because we are so very wealthy, but because we know that hard times hits us all. We have been there one way or another in this lifetime and we are taught we are indeed ‘our brother’s keeper’ and as we give God will provide for our needs when the time comes.

Are there some who take advantage of these times of great need? Yes, unfortunately, but I believe they are in the minority and in time will get their just dues. The wheel of justice grinds slow but very fine and sure! We will let that up to the God who blesses these United States.

In the meantime, as we dig even deeper into our pockets, for it is all about neighbor helping a neighbor, not the race, color, creed or greed. It is not politics, statues or hate. We are God’s people! It is about helping our fellow man on this journey of a lifetime. We will continue to pray and ask God for His help and mercy for this day and for the many days to come. To the victims, we send our prayers and our love.
