True community service evident in tornado cleanup

1 min read

I am one of the dozens of volunteers who worked every Saturday morning for a month to help clean up Uniontown’s Gallatin Avenue area after it was struck by a tornado. I have always felt that those who are truly committed to public service don’t seek credit or headlines for their efforts. That’s why you didn’t see Tim Mahoney making a real big deal of his organizing and participating in this one.

True to form, when people needed help, Tim and his family didn’t wait for the state or federal government bureaucracies to handle the situation. He got a bunch of volunteers together, joined them in applying some elbow grease, and spent countless hours in all kinds of weather conditions to help rid the area of debris.

I wonder how many others, including those who beat their own chests while professing a love for Fayette County and a concern for its people, would do the same.
