Chevron dog bone project may generate excess pollution

1 min read

The installation of three or four storage tanks of one million gallons of water and residual wastewater each is of great concern for the Mon River Valley. Chevron is drilling into the radioactive Marcellus shale, pumping in millions of gallons of river water and getting flow-back water which is radioactive.

Where will all the radioactive drill cuttings and contaminated water end up? What is the exposure to the off-gases, vent gases and leaked gases? What about the exhaust gases from all the diesel trucks hauling water and wastewater between these tanks and frack wells in the region?

We are concerned for the residents of Luzerne Township and for the air and water of the Mon River Valley as this large scale project extends over years of time. This is not just a neighborhood gas well to supply local needs, but a large scale regional project where the local residents must bear the consequences. This is unlike other gas well projects in the region. The State and County should apply significant regulation and monitoring or cancel this project in the public interest.
