The government should support our ‘heroes’

3 min read

A heartfelt “thank you” to all of our honorable and dedicated persons whose missions in life is to care about the quality of life for others.

Our police officers who are constant targets and subjected to the tantrums of violence and an arsenal of attacks in a hostile environment. They are expected to perform their duties with one hand tied behind their backs as cameras scrutinize their enforcement of the law.

The firefighters who run into towering infernos, engulfed in deadly smoke and burning structures with floors on the verge of collapse. Our volunteer firefighters are not being paid for their commitments.

These distinguished people have one goal in mind, to rescue and save others without safety concerns for themselves.

As our EMS and additional first responders confront emergencies and cries for help, they are frequently blindsided by explosive emotional and physical situations which compromise their safety.

Our volunteers who reach out within the communities and selflessly extend themselves to comfort those who have suffered losses, embracing those who see a future without hope and need undeniable support to take the next step forward.

All of our dedicated medical professionals and hospital staff, clinics and out- patient departments.

Regardless of title or position, they function as a team with the strength of unity and have no boundaries regarding patient care.

The military men and women are the anchors of our freedom. Deployment by these priceless lives is not an entitlement. They sacrifice their lives to the cruelties of war and are subjected to severe and adverse conditions. Constantly being on the alert for assailants, being ambushed and the mental anguish of military combat, loss of lives and amputations. How many distinguished veterans return home and are living under bridges, in cardboard boxes, hungry, homeless, forgotten and in need of medical care?

How many of our senior citizens are fractured and live in fear of tomorrow? Too often there is no eloquence in honoring the elderly. Many seniors’ finances are chaotic. They live in bondage because of the financial tourniquet wrapped around their lives by elected officials. Seniors will compromise their nutrition by eating poorly, take half of their medications, live in the cold to decrease heating cost and have a constant fear of foreclosures and becoming homeless because they cannot pay their taxes.

Our child service programs take the hands of our children and lead them into adulthood. Supporting their strengths, comforting their weaknesses, wiping away tears, accepting them so they will accept themselves and show them love that erases the past and projects and optimistic future. Millions of dollars are needed to restore lives.

Million dollar trust funds should be created to financially support the families of the heroes who sacrificed their lives for others. The families who are crippled by the devastating loss of life. Memories that ravage the heart in the morning and tearfully in the evening shadows. Children whose hearts bleed like a deep cut and grieve with silent tears. No one in the USA should be homeless and live with financial fear. Our distinguished and honorable military veterans fought against the threats attacking our freedom and democracy, many with their lives. Seniors are not remnants of yesterday are whose lives maybe on a narrow road of survival, scarred with the brokenness of hope. In 2016 and 2017 a 1.7 percent Social Security increase was denied to our seniors because the cost of gas was low and the 2.5 percent increase expected in 2018 was reduced to 2percent. The politicians received their significant contractual increases.
