LETTER: Beautification of Brownsville has already begun

2 min read

Often, public officials work tirelessly for their constituents with very little thanks for the job they do.

I would like to thank Fayette County’s commissioners, especially Commissioner Vince Vicites, who spearheaded the project, and Andrew French of Fayette County’s redevelopment authority, for the removal of the building next to 123 Brownsville Ave., which is owned by Crosskeys Human Services, Inc.

A wall was shared by that building and one of the walls of the Crosskeys buildings. Our insurance company was not happy with the situation, but we did not have the funds to demolish the dilapidated building.

I spoke with Vicites about our predicament, and he assured me that when funds became available, he, along with the redevelopment authority, would assist us in getting the building down. True to his word, it is now gone.

We plan to make the space an area where our consumers can sit outside and relax. Presently, when they want to sit outside, they only have the sidewalk. We also want to beautify the area by planting flowers. A section will be used for a garden. The consumers will be able to grow their own vegetables.

The beautification of Brownsville has already begun and we hope to tap into the process by the beautification of the part that is owned by Crosskeys Human Services, Inc.
