A recent story in the Herald-Standard hit home for me. It involved the family of Staff Sgt. William Lowery of Republic, who was on a United States Army bomber in World War II, which crashed during a fierce storm in the Pacific. The Army couldn't find the plane, which carried Lowery along with 10 of his comrades, and they were declared Missing in Action. Read more

For whatever reason, Christmas always seems to overshadow Easter. It's a shame really, considering that Easter is much more significant than Christmas. Perhaps it's a good thing, though, that Easter remains somewhat in the background, considering what all the hoopla has done to Christmas. Many people are too worn out from all the shopping and running around for Christmas to even reflect on the reason for the season. Read more

You hear story after story these days about how youngsters are overweight, with some even developing diabetes. Apparently parents are worried about the safety of their kids playing outside and figure they’re better off staying indoors even if they gain a few pounds doing so. Read more

In a column earlier this week in the Herald-Standard, noted political analyst G. Terry Madonna said that the key for Donald Trump in Tuesday’s Republican presidential will be his showing in southwestern Pennsylvania, namely Beaver, Westmoreland, Washington, Greene and Fayette counties. Read more
