LETTER: Do the right thing

2 min read

A horrifying display of arrogance and self-dealing was broadcast to the American people and the entire world when Donald Trump and JD Vance attacked and berated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office on Feb. 28. I felt shame and fear for my country for putting Trump and Vance in office because we have now reneged on our promise to support a fellow democracy. The whole world has seen this and knows for certain that the United States of America cannot be trusted to come to any country’s defense in support of their strong or burgeoning democracies. And we are a weak nation because of it, something also that the whole world can see. We are not safe.

I can’t imagine the betrayal the Ukrainian people feel right now. This was not a political attack. It was a personal vendetta.

Ronald Reagan and John McCain must be turning over in their graves right now to see the GOP flip, within minutes, from support of Ukraine to towing Trump’s and Vance’s line of expectation for groveling and repayment. Another shameful display.

What can you do? Think of the country that your children and grandchildren will grow up in if this is allowed to continue.

Grow a spine. Then speak out against this lunacy. Do the right thing.
