LETTER: WSO concerts not to be missed
Everybody knows that the “W” in WSO stands for Washington, but do you know that it also stands for “wonderful?” I have been attending their concerts for many years, and I would rate each and every one as wonderful. The conductor is Dr. Yugo Ikach and he always finds creative themes to showcase our musicians.
This past weekend, he brought in 50 members of the Steel City Ukuleles to play with the orchestra. It was a unique move that provided the audience with a new way to enjoy the music. How fortunate we are to have his talent leading our local symphony orchestra!
His next event will be directing Dan Forrest’s “Requiem for the Living,” which will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 22, at Immaculate Conception Church in Washington. He will be directing over 100 voices from the St. James Parish Choir and the PennWest University Choir, along with a small orchestra.
If you have not attended one of his choral concerts, you do not know what you are missing. The choral concert is free admission for all.
These concerts prove that you do not have to travel to Pittsburgh to see a first-class performance.
