On Wednesday, May 15, Great Crossings Chapter of the DAR had the opportunity to provide tours of the Petersburg Toll House located in Addison. It is one of two remaining toll houses in existence in Pennsylvania today.Originally there were six of them. The tours were provided to the Marclay Elementary third- and fourth-grade students, their teachers and chaperones.

I want to personally compliment the teachers for how well prepared the students were for this field trip. The students were able to answer questions about the toll house as well as provide information which they had been taught prior to their visit. They were also very well behaved and inquisitive about the history of the toll house.

Our area is rich in history, as well as state and federal parks. What a wonderful opportunity this area provides for young children to experience. I would encourage families to take advantage of them and spend some quality time visiting any and all of them. Great Crossings Chapter of the DAR welcomes you to come and visit the Petersburg Toll House during the Chain Saw Festival, which will be held in Addison, June 13-15.
