School Board meetings Voting sessions are held 6 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month with work sessions held at 6 p.m. the Monday before. Locations for both meetings are as follows: January/February, George J. Plava Elementary; March/April, D. Ferd Swaney Elementary; May/June, Friendship Hill Elementary; July/August, Masontown Elementary; September/October, A.L. Wilson Elementary; November/December, Smithfield Elementary.

Chief Tanacharison Chapter of the Daughters of American Colonists sponsors a poetry contest in local secondary schools each year that focuses on American history and patriotism.
