Ruth and Charles Newell recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married Aug. 8, 1953, at St. John the Martyr Roman Catholic Church, New York City.

Mr. Newell is a graduate of Marietta College with a degree in petroleum engineering.

He is a Korean War veteran and is a retired marketing executive from Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania with 35 years of service in four states.

Mrs. Newell is a full-time homemaker. She is a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church and has been active in many social, civic and volunteer organizations.

They are the parents of two sons, Charles Newell and wife Diane of Uniontown and Christopher Newell and wife Sandra of Warren, Mich. they have three grandchildren, Amanda Lynn Newell, Stacey Marie Newell and Christopher Coulter Newell.

A reception at their home and a family dinner at the Coal Baron Restaurant celebrated the occasion.
