Baughmans mark 60th wedding anniversary
Earl and Lyn O’Neill Baughman of San Diego, Calif. celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sept. 21 with a cruise to Canada and ports on the New England coast. Earl was the oldest of seven children of Elsie and Clifford Baughman (both deceased) with a brother, James of Hopwood, and sister Dorothy Harbarger of Cleveland, Ohio still living.
He grew up in York Run and Collier and was a track star at Georges Township High School and also a carrier for the Herald-Standard Newspaper.
His wife was born in Newport, R.I., and was raised in a career Navy family. They met at a USO dance in Oakland, Calif. right after he completed navy boot camp at Great Lakes and was transferred to the Naval Air Station, Alameda, Calif. Lyn had just returned from Honolulu, Hawaii where her father was stationed in the Navy. She was there when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. They were married 14 months later.
He also served in the U.S. Marines as a master sergeant during the Korean War.
They have a son, Ronald, and a daughter, Marguerite, who died March 2003; four grandsons, three great-granddaughters and three great-grandsons.
Earl retired from federal civil service after 32 years service and Lyn from being a stay at home Mother. He retired from the General Services Administration as the Regional Commissioner of Public Buildings Service, San Francisco, Calif. and was responsible for all federal buildings and leased space in California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii and the Mexican border.
He was also responsible for President Nixon’s Western White House at San Clements.
They have been retired in San Diego for 30 years and have traveled extensively in the U.S. and have been on different cruises in the Caribbean, Canada, Alaska and Mexico.
