Mr. and Mrs. Sumey celebrate 50th wedding anniversary
Merwin and Rita Sumey of Hopwood were honored Saturday at a surprise 50th wedding anniversary party hosted by their son and daughter. They were united in marriage on May 5, 1956, at St. Joseph Church in Uniontown. Maid of honor was Ruth (Bill) Jacobson, and best man was Stanley Muzidal.
Merwin Sumey is the son of Sarah and the late Clyde Sumey of Uniontown. He worked locally as partner and owner of Sumey’s Sheetmetal Shop until his recent retirement.
Rita (Muzidal) Sumey is the daughter of the late Frank and Sophie Muzidal of McClellandtown.
They are the parents of Jeffrey Sumey and wife Deborah of Uniontown, and Lisa Jo and husband Ken Sproul of Pittsburgh.
They have three granddaughters, Miranda, Sara and Jenny Sumey, and two grandsons, Aaron and Gregory Sproul.
Family and friends attended a surprise celebration in their honor at the Duck Hollow Golf Club.
A renewal Mass at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Uniontown is being offered today.
