Snyders celebrate 65th anniversary

On Nov. 30, 1941, one week before Pearl Harbor was attacked, Violet Fike was married to Adam L. Snyder in Oakland, Md. They were married by the Rev. Minor Sprague, minister of the Oakland Methodist Church. Violet worked as bookkeeper and office manager for Lawrence Parshall of the Parshall and Crow Coke Company of Uniontown. Adam served 40 months in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his navy service, he was employed by U.S. Steep Corp. for 43 years.

Violet was active in the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron in 1958-59, and as District Deputy Grand Matron of District 8 in 1962-63. Adam was a member of Masonic Order and was active in the volunteer fire company of Masontown for over 50 years.

The Snyders are the parents of two daughters, Cynthia, married to Danny Schiffbauer, and residing in Wellsburg, W. Va., and Nancy, married to Lewis Ewart, residing in Martinsburg. Cindy had two children, Jennifer Fitzpatrick, a teacher in the Brooke County School System, and residing in Weirton, W.Va., and James, married to Rebecca Freeland. They live at Christiansburg, Va. James is attending Virginia Tech and working on his doctorate in biology.

Nancy and Lewis are the parents of three children; Jeffrey is a second semester student, majoring in political science at Juniata College at Huntingdon; Laura and Jonathan, at home, attending Central High School in Roaring Spring.

The Snyders reside in Masontown.
