Mr. and Mrs. John D. Kubina Sr. of Banning celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 18 at a surprise party given by their family at the Star Junction Fish and Game Club. They were married July 18, 1959, at the Winnett united Methodist Church in Smithton by the Rev. Anna B. Potter. Mrs. Kubina is the former Joanne Walters, daughter of the late George and Mary Walters of Banning. Mr. Kubina is the son of the late Andrew and Eustine Kubina of Virgin Run.

Both graduated from Perry High School. Mrs. Kubina was in the class of 1957 and Mr. Kubina was with the class of 1952.

Mr. Kubina was employed as a heavy equipment operator with the S&P Coal Co. and Twilight Industries before he retired. He also worked for his son, John D. Kubina Jr. Building and Remodeling Co. until he retired due to health reasons.

They are the parents of John Jr. and his wife Deb of Banning and Jackie Ann (Missy) Wright of Smithton.

Two children are deceased, Debbie in 1961, and Jimmy in 2002.

They have four grandchildren, Angie Ritz and husband John, Amanda and fianc?, Jeremy Janos, who plan to marry Sept. 10 in Hawaii; John III and friend, Marcie Jurik, all of Banning; Randy and Ashley Wright of Speers.

There are two great-grandchildren, Madison Elizabeth and Mason William Ritz of Banning. A third great-grandchild, Nativity Grace Wright, is due in September.
