Our Caring Corner recruiting volunteers

2 min read

Our Caring Corner, a child grief support program, is recruiting additional dedicated volunteers who have the desire to make a commitment to help grieving children.

Our Caring Corner was established to address the needs of grieving children in Fayette and Greene counties. The 10-week sessions are held on Mondays from 6 to 8 p.m. at the East End United Community Center.

Our Caring Corner is a safe place where grieving children and their parents or guardians, come together and talk about their feelings and memories in an atmosphere of acceptance.

It does not offer counseling, but only peer support.

Both children and adults meet in age-specific groups, which offer listening, validation of feelings and encouragement.

Volunteers work together to support families who attend group sessions.

Most of the volunteers facilitate groups with the children and their families. But volunteers are also needed in other areas such as family greeters, food servers, special projects and quilters.

Training is provided free of charge. You must be over the age of 18 and have or be able to obtain criminal and child abuse clearances. A new volunteer training session will begin Aug. 17.

Training will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday for two weeks and the final session in the series will be held Aug. 27.

For more information on becoming a volunteer for the Our Caring Corner, call 724-437-1660.
