NEW SALEM AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY, Unit 753, will celebrate its 60th anniversary with a dinner at Bogey’s-Duck Hollow golf course at 6 p.m. Sept. 8. Installation of officers for the new auxiliary year will also take place. Cost is $16 and deadline for reservations is Sept. 1. MASONTOWN COMMUNITY KITCHEN meal will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday. The menu will be a summertime picnic with hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, Panera breads and desserts. The Community Kitchen is located in the First Presbyterian Church at 102 W. Church Ave., Masontown, where meals are served between 4 and 7 p.m. every other Tuesday. Invite someone to attend who is in need of a nutritious meal and social and spiritual fellowship. The soup kitchen’s meals are free to all those in need but donations are welcomed and are used to provide the food and supplies for the kitchen. GEORGES TOWNSHIP CLASS OF 1941 will hold its 70-year reunion at 3 p.m. Sept. 24 at Denny’s Restaurant, 653 W. Main St., Uniontown. For information, call Marge at 724-438-2082.
COMMUNITY HEROES CELEBRATION SERVICE will be held at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Light & Life Campgrounds in Fairchance. The churches of Fairchance and Smithfield are joining together to honor everyday community heroes. Guest speaker will be Commander Tim E. Flecker, commanding officer, Navy Operational Support Center, Pittsburgh. Those being honored will include state and local police, firefighters, ambulance and emergency technician crews, military, veterans and reservists. The service will include special music, and a patriotic cantata performed by the Fayette Community Choir, titled, “Stars & Stripes Forever,” under the direction of Brad Henry. Following the service, there will be an informal reception at the camp dining hall for all who attend. For directions or more information, 724-564-5000. The public is invited.
FLATWOODS COMMUNITY PICNIC will be held Sept. 11 at Franklin Township Park. Sign-in begins at noon with dinner at 1 p.m. Meat and beverage will be provided. Bring a covered dish. Music will be by the Stewarts.
