AH, SPRING!
Ah, Spring! I’m ready. We’ve turned our clocks ahead (yawn), green shoots are sprouting, the American Cancer Society Daffodil Days were last week, and we’ve seen temperatures steadily rising with fewer backslides.
Here at the library, Miss Dianne has begun the Spring Story Times on Wednesday and Thursday at 11 a.m. They will continue through May 18 and 19. Bring your little ones in on one of those days to enjoy delightful stories, clever crafts and a light snack.
The Senior Bookworms will again meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the second floor meeting room. They will discuss the book “When the Heart Cries” by Cindy Woodsmall. If you are thinking of joining a book discussion group, stop in and talk with the members. It’s free and the books are provided.
Each year, every state-aided library in Pennsylvania must file an annual report and submit it to Harrisburg. I’ve come across some interesting statistics for the Uniontown Public Library that might interest you.
In 2010, the library loaned 86,025 items from its collection. It borrowed 690 books from other Pennsylvania libraries for you, and loaned 664 to other libraries for their patrons.
There were 813 new library cards issued, and of that figure, 121 were children. Total number of library cards held exceeds 9,000, and the collection contains over 103,000 items.
The Pennsylvania room had 1,361 users – probably many more than that who forgot to sign in.
The library also saw free usage of the Internet computers at 18,516 times, and answered 19,162 reference or instructional questions.
An impressive statistic shows attendance at library programs by adults and children to be 12,275.
You can see that your community library is a very busy place and well used.
There is a new face in the Pennsylvania Room, now. He’s quiet and stoic, but he’s no help at all to us or to our researchers. He hasn’t been named yet, but Vicki is pleased to have a mannequin on which she can display period garments. When you first step into the PA Room, it’s startling to see a tall man dressed in a Navy uniform standing perfectly still. Come take a look.
Come see us in the library, sign up for a library card, and enjoy the spring weather.
