Flenniken Public Library is Celebrating National Library Week
Flenniken Public Library, as part of a new initiative called PA Forward, is planning on showcasing sets of skills that libraries promote and support starting this week during National Library Week.
At 6:30 p.m. today, the library will embrace basic literacy by featuring preschool story hour, toddler time, Flenniken book club, and the library’s children’s e-book database called Tumblebooks.
The library will celebrate civic and social literacy with a language scavenger hunt all week. Participants will find answers using the library’s language resources, including the online Mango Languages learning site. There will be prizes awarded. Get the game card online at www.flenniken.org, on Facebook or at the library.
A program focusing on health literacy will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Ruth Enci will discuss the community garden, how the program works, what is planted in the garden, who can participate and how people can volunteer.
On May 22 the library will host a program on financial literacy and how to manage debt presented by the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. More information will be released about the presenter and time of the event at a later date.
Additionally, in celebration of National Library Week, the library is joining the other libraries in the Washington Library District in forgiving fines on overdue materials returned between April 8 and 14. There will also be cookies, coffee and lemonade on hand for everyone who comes in to use the library.
Library hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The library is located at 102 East George St., Carmichaels.
