Polish Constitution Celebration Set
Annually for more than 20 years, the Polish Heritage Club of Uniontown has prepared for and conducted the observance of the Polish Constitution of May 3, 1971.
For 2012, the observance is set for 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Footedale. Officers, members and friends will gather for a para-liturgical service with hymns, prayers, scripture readings and a special address or homily with a rosary walk and benediction.
Newly elected president Frank Cetera invites the public, especially those of Polish background to participate on Sunday. Club chaplain, the Rev. Joseph L. Sredzinski will serve as master of ceremonies. Afterward, light refreshments will be enjoyed in the parish social hall.
The Polish Heritage Club was chartered in 1973 and for 37 years, has continued to promote good Polish culture in the Fayette County area.
“Trzeci Maj” recalls the proclamation of the Polish Constitution based on the American Constitution assuring freedoms for all citizens. The democratic principles threatened Poland’s neighbors of Austria, Russia and Prussia who decided to partition Poland and eventually to erase the nation from the map of Europe.
Those of Polish heritage everywhere found great comfort in the document of May 3, 1971 and continue to celebrate its meaning and influences even today.
