CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAS COURT BROWNSVILLE 1141 will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday in the North Side Brownsville 1 fire hall. The “May Crowning” of the blessed Virgin Mary will take place with a business meeting to follow.
CHIEF TANACHRISON CHAPTER OF THE DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN COLONISTS will hold a luncheon meeting at 11:45 a.m. Saturday at the Thompson House Restaurant, Brownsville. New officers will be installed. The program, “Let’s Talk Quilts,” will be presented by Joyce Wrigley. Members are invited to bring a quilt to display for the group. Hostesses are Diane Hillen and Judy Ambuehl. Members will be contacted for reservations. Barbara Keefer is chapter regent.
CONNELLSVILLE AREA HISTORICAL SOCIETY will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Gibson House on Patterson Avenue in Connellsville. The group will critique a 1946 film shot by Thomas Balsley. The film is now presented in a DVD format and is available for sale. There will be discussion of the recent grants received from the 2012 hotel tax grant that were awarded to the Connellsville Area Historical Society. Plans for the summer months will also be discussed, including the 9th annual Braddock’s Crossing of the Yough and the annual Flag Day picnic. Light refreshments will be served.
New members are always welcome to attend and join the Connellsville Area Historical Society.
EAST END CONCERNED CITIZENS GROUP will hold their monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday in the community room of the East End United Community Center.
HOPWOOD GARDEN CLUB will not have a meeting in May. Spring planting will be held the week of May 14 and National Pike Days will take place May 18 and 19. All members need to help with the plant sale on May 19.
LIBERTY BAPTIST CHURCH will hold an auction at 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday that will feature furniture, new clothes, household goods, tools, gift certificates, old toys, Penguins and Steelers merchandise, glassware and more. SMITHFIELD LIONS CLUB will hold its annual Mother’s Day flower sale from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Amy Lynne Sunoco, Route 119, Smithfield.
