Laurel Highlands Air Force JROTC to host flag retirement ceremony

1 min read

Laurel Highlands Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) will host a flag retirement ceremony at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Laurel Highlands stadium.

Special flags will be ceremoniously “retired” including a U.S. flag that flew over the Uniontown World War II memorial by Ralph Mazza, a World War II veteran and Joe T. Joseph of the War and Veterans Committee. Chuck Thomas will also retire a Prisoner of War (POW)/ Missing in Action (MIA) flag that also flew over the World War II memorial and was donated by the late Abie Abraham, a survivor of the Bataan Death March.

Also to be retired are flags that have flown over the graves of local veterans and are no longer serviceable. These flags will represent the over 2,000 flags replaced throughout Fayette County.
