AMVETS POST 103 LADIES AUXILIARY will hold their meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the Post home. Members are asked to bring personal items for the domestic violence shelter. Members are asked to not bring items for the Steelers basket.
BULLSKIN TOWNSHIP VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY will host a discount food sale fundraiser Saturday at the department’s Central Station, 260 Keefer Road, Connellsville. The doors will open at 8:30 a.m., and shopping will start at 9 a.m. Discount meat, cheese, food, frozen food, dairy case products and potatoes will be available. The sale will be cash only.
FAYETTE COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the Abel Colley Tavern and Museum, Route 40 West. Dr. John Naas, professor of anthropology at California University of Pennsylvania, will speak about the War of 1812. The public is invited to attend, and new members are welcome. Hostesses for the evening will be Brenda Collins and Wilma Gaidrich.
FRIENDS OF THE UNIONTOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY will meet at 1 p.m. Monday in the meeting room of the library. Any interested community member is welcome to attend.
STANDING IN THE GAP will host a pastors appreciation lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the Uniontown Holiday Inn. Guest speaker will be Sam Rohrer, president of Pennsylvania Pastors Network. Standing in the Gap is a group of concerned Christian believers who are committed to addressing moral and social issues that affect their generation and the generations to follow. PENN STATE EXTENSION MASTER GARDENER PROGRAM will hold training classes for 2012 to 2013 starting in October and running until March. An orientation meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 19 at the extension office at 34 W. Peter St., Uniontown. At this time, an overview of the program and volunteer opportunities will be given. UMWA LOCAL UNION NO. 762’S meeting has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. Sept. 15 at the UMWA District 2 office in Grindstone due to the UMWA Pensioner Picnic being held on Saturday.
TOUCHSTONE CENTER FOR CRAFTS is hosting a birthday party for Jim Campbell’s 97th birthday from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The party is open to anyone and guests are asked to bring a covered dish to share.
