Kids Fun Fest planned at Uniontown Mall
Kids all around the area will have a chance to close out their summer with some fun during an event scheduled at the Uniontown Mall.
The first-ever Kids Fun Fest is set for 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Aug. 18 and will feature activities, displays, chances to win prizes and more.
According to Pam Moore, general manager of the mall, officials there are pleased to be collaborating with so many local organizations and businesses to provide the special day for families.
“We wanted to do something different for back-to-school this year and developed the first Kids Fun Fest,” she said. “We are hopeful this will be an annual event and also hope the local community will come out, support this event and enjoy the fun.”
The day will feature balloon twisting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. by Rebecca Kanar. The award-winning balloon artist and teacher of 20 years runs ABC Balloon Twisting. She teaches balloon art at conventions to other artists from all over the world and has four DVDs on the market.
Also making an appearance that day at 11 a.m. will be the beloved Pittsburgh Pirates Parrot, to meet and greet families attending the event.
Additionally, The Magic of TJ Hill, sponsored by SWC Properties, will entertain audiences beginning at 1 p.m. According to his website, Hill began to work in magic part-time while attending Penn State University where he was studying musical theater. He performed at local restaurants and clubs, private and corporate events, and soon had thousands of performances under his belt all over the world.
At 2 p.m., Nemacolin Woodlands Zoo Animal Show, sponsored by the Herald-Standard, will be featured. The animals from the resort in Farmington will be on hand to entertain those in attendance.
Several activities will be held from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., including music by Kingfish WorldWide, sponsored by Uniontown Hospital; “Have Fun Building with Lego Bricks” by Brooke’s Block Party in Connellsville; a bounce house sponsored by Autoland Hyundai; an inflatable “Knock It Off” game; a prize wheel for chances to win gift cards, school supplies and more; and a fire truck display from South Union Township Fire Department
Displays and activities will be featured from the following mall merchants:
Amy’s Hallmark – DIY Itty Bitty’s; AT&T, face painting; Auntie Anne’s Pretzels, coloring activity and free samples; Boston Beanery, face painting and treat bags; Bradley’s Books, display and activities; Christopher & Banks, display and coupons; Claire’s, freeze modeling; Dunham’s Sports, display and coupons; Game Stop, interactive demonstration; JC Penney, “Super Kid Zone” activities including pencil pouch coloring and special pricing for JCP Salon services and Sephora items; Justice, display and giveaways; Master Cuts, hair braiding, colored hairsprays and free consultations; Regis Salon, coupon specials; Sonny’s Sports Bar, coloring activity and free food samples.
Local businesses and organizations will also participate in the event including: Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Boy Scouts, Fayette County Behavioral Health Administration, Girl Scouts, Head Start/Early Head Start of Fayette County, Health First Medical Center Day Care, Phoenix Arts Center and Sheriff’s Office-Fayette County.
