Bud Murphy’s takes 2-1 lead

Bud Murphy’s took a 2-0 lead in the Fayette County Baseball League semifinals with a 2-1 win over Masontown. Winning pitcher Nick Damico tossed his second playoff win with seven strikeouts in eight innings pitched and allowed two walks.

Scoreless through the first five innings, Bud Murphy’s picked up its first run in the top of the sixth inning on a fielder’s choice.

Masontown bounced right back i the bottom of the sixth when Scott Vansickle doubled and scored on a single by Joe Pennington.

Bud Murphy’s center fielder Josh Delawder helped on the defensive side as he tossed out runners at home in the first and fourth innings.

Delawder also drove in the winning run in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly that scored Shawn Lucy.

Masontown had one last chance in the bottom of the eighth inning and had the bases loaded with one out. Damico threw a strikeout and a groundout to end the game.

Game three will take place at 5 p.m. today at Breakneck Field.
