Colonial, Mustang golf teams post victories Girls tennis
Connellsville 3, Indiana 2 – Connellsville’s No. 2 doubles team of Julissa Pieczynski and Staci Kerns rallied from one set down to give the Lady Falcons a hard-fought, key Section 1-AAA victory over host Indiana.
Indiana’s Nancy KaBlack and Linda Lewis won the first set, 6-3, before Pieczynski and Kerns fought back to take the second set, 6-2, and the third set, 6-4.
“I knew this match was going to be a war,” Connelllsville coach Don Campbell said. “Our No. 2 doubles team came through for us. Those two girls showed a lot of courage. They’re both seniors and their girls were underclassmen, and I think that gave us a bit of an edge.
“This was a big victory for us, especially on the road. I was worried about Indiana and Latrobe in this section. They’re very solid at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.”
Indiana (0-1, 0-1) sisters Christy Bungo and Candace Bungo, the coach’s daughters, easily won the first two singles matches, dropping one game between them, before the Lady Falcons’ Erica Husband rolled to victory at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0 over Andrea Moyer.
Kristina Grove and Laura Lucas gave Connellsville (2-0, 1-0) a win at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 6-4 over Leslie Wallace and Emily Jockel.
