California rolls past Carmichaels Shane Tonkavitch fired in seven 3-pointers en route to a game-high 26 points as California (5-2) rolled to an easy 77-55 win over Carmichaels in Section 2-A play.
Teammates Ricky Cope, Dan DeMoss and Ryan Robinson also scored in double figures with 15, 14 and 11 points.
Colby Giles had the hot hand for Carmichaels (3-3) with 20 points, including four 3-pointers, while Bobby Hathaway scored 16 and Jono Menhart added 12.
California hosts Bentworth today, while Carmichaels visits Geibel Catholic on Friday.
Geibel Catholic 70, West Greene 63 – Rob Ramsey led the Gators with 20 points as they remain undefeated in Section 2-A with a win over West Greene.
John Bokat added 10 points for Geibel.
West Greene’s Keith Ross led all scorers with 26 points, including three 3-pointers, while Justin Allen added 18.
Geibel (4-2, 2-0) will host Carmichaels on Friday.
Conemaugh Township 90, Turkeyfoot Valley 50 – Andy Byer led with 26 points, including three 3-pointers, as Conemaugh Township defeated Turkeyfoot Valley in non-section action.
Bob Lager was high scorer for Turkeyfoot with 15 points, making 4-of-9 from the foul line, a 3-point goal and 14 rebounds.
Brandon Ream was the only other Ram in double figures with 10 points. He also pulled down seven rebounds.
Turkeyfoot visits Westmar (Md.) on Thursday.
Girls basketball
Beth-Center 47, California 29 – Jen Carroll fired in 14 points and shot 2-of-4 from the foul line as Beth-Center defeated California in a non-section contest.
Katie Doman had over half of California’s total output with 17 points, including 6-of-8 from the foul line.
California will play Frazier at home on Thursday, while the Lady Bulldogs of Beth-Center will host Burgettstown on Thursday in a Section 5-AA matchup.
Avella 57, Mapletown 25 – Avella jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as it defeated Mapletown in Section 2-A action.
The Lady Eagles led 27-9 at the half and held Mapletown to just 16 second half points.
Jessica Schock was the only Lady Maple in double figures with 12 points, including 4-of-8 from the foul line.
As a team, Mapletown had only seven field goals and were 6-of-12 from the foul line.
The Lady Maples will host Jefferson-Morgan on Friday while Avella hosts West Greene on Friday.
Women’s basketball
California 84, Dakota Wesleyan 55 – California University of Pa. women’s basketball team is off to an 8-0 start with a win over Dakota Wesleyan in the Coconut Classic held in Hawaii.
The win ties the best start for the women’s basketball team’s history.
Becky Siembak led the way with 22 points and 14 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season, while Sameera Philyaw added 12 points and 11 rebounds.
California will return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. at home against Mansfield.
