Carmichaels, B-C battle in title game Carmichaels held off a late Avella rally while Beth-Center, the host team, finished with a strong second half Thursday to advance to the finals tonight at 8 p.m.

Carmichaels defeated previously undefeated Avella, 39-37, although the Lady Eagles outscored the Lady Mikes, 31-10, in the second half. Carmichaels held a 19-6 halftime lead after allowing only one point in the first quarter.

Autumn Willis was the lone player for Carmichaels (7-1) in double figures with 10 points. Lisa Mitchell led Avella (10-1) with eight points.

With the game tied at 8-8, Beth-Center moved ahead for good in the second quarter with a 14-8 advantage. The Lady Bulldogs continued the momentum into the second half, outscoring the Lady Trojans, 23-16.

Samantha Slagle led the Beth-Center attack with 16 points. Melissa Finley added 12 to the winning effort.

Katy Doman scored 15 for California.

California will play Avella in the consolation game at 6 p.m.

Turkeyfoot Valley 46, Hyndman 24 – Jeanette Augustine had a good all-around performance with 10 points, six rebounds and five steals to lead the Lady Rams into the championship game of their own tournament.

Courtney Smith was also in double figures for Turkeyfoot (5-4) with 10 points.

The host team jumped out early with a 17-5 in the first quarter and never looked back. The Lady Rams continued on in the next two quarters, outscoring Hyndman 12-6 in the second quarter and 12-8 in the third quarter.

Turkeyfoot will play Northern (Md.) in tonight’s title game. Northern defeated Salisbury, 48-33, to advance. Amanda Frantz scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the victors. Wendy Miller had 10 points for Salisbury.
