2 min read

Pairings have been announced for the first round of playoffs in the Fayette American Legion Baseball League. League officials said play will start today with one “Pigtail Round” game, matching Waynesburg at Farmington with the winner being the eighth team in the two-division pairings.

Teams were paired on the basis of their regular season finish with the best-record team facing the eighth-place team, second place against seventh, third with sixth and the fourth place team meeting the No. 5 team.

The final regular season records, announced by league officials were:

North Division – Connellsville 18-4, Charleroi 14-8, California and Farmington tied at 7-15, but California will get the higher place in the brackets because of two wins over Farmington, and Waynesburg 3-19.

South Division – Colonial No. 3 20-2, Uniontown 16-6, Carmichaels 15-7, Masontown 9-13 and Perryopolis 5-17.

Perryopolis advised league officials it would not compete in post-season play.

First round (best-of-3) games on Saturday will match the Farmington-Waynesburg winner at Colonial, California at Connellsville (5:30), Charleroi at Carmichaels and Masontown at Uniontown.

The only starting time announced was for the California at Connellsville game.

Sunday games pair Colonial at the Farmington-Waynesburg winner, Connellsville at California, Carmichaels at Charleroi and Masontown at Uniontown.

If third games are needed, they will be played Tuesday, using the same schedule as the Saturday games.

Second-round pairings – also to be a best-of-three series and based on regular season records – will be made at the end of the first round games.
