Mill Run rallies for County League win over Fayette City
Chris Brunson labored through seven innings to pick up the victory, and Dennis Show and Chris Firestone had three hits each, as Mill Run rallied for a 9-5 victory over Fayette City in Fayette County League action Wednesday. Brunson (6-1-1) allowed 11 singles and walked five batters, while striking out three.
Doug Gallick smacked a solo home run with no outs in the fifth, his first dinger of the season.
Show finished with a double and two RBIs, while Jeremy Miller and Gallick also drove in a pair of runs. Gallick and Ray Orndorff.
Ken Holt suffered the loss in relief of Brian Horner. Horner started and worked two innings, allowing one run on three hits. He was relieved by Holt after walking the bases loaded in the bottom of the third.
Holt worked four innings, allowed eight runs (six earned) while striking out three and walking five.
Ryan Russell, Jon Hanczaryk, Jim Russell and Justin Murphy all had two hits for Fayette City.
Mill Run improved to 18-7-1.
Carmichaels 6, Masontown 0 – Pete Stofcheck tossed a complete-game four-hitter, and Lee Fritz reached base four times as the Copperheads blanked Masontown.
Stofcheck (3-1) allowed three singles and Craig Zvolensky’s double. He struck out two and walked one. Stofcheck got help from his defense, as Carmichaels turned three double plays.
In their past three games, the Copperheads have turned seven twin-killings.
Fritz scored four runs after tripling, singling and walking twice.
Charlie Humes had two hits and Jeff Thompson added a double.
Brent Baker suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs on nine hits.
Carmichaels (17-5) returns to action Friday night, hosting Bud Murphy’s at 6, then travels to Breakneck Field Saturday at 3 p.m.
Bud Murphy’s 9, Brownsville 1 – Jason Halfhill remained undefeated, scattering six hits over five innings as Bud Murphy’s continued to roll with a win over Brownsville.
Craig Beucher smacked a solo home run, and Tony Rose added a two-run shot in the fourth inning with one.
Mark Edenfeld chipped in a triple, while Brian Sankovich and Brian Shipley each added a two-base hit.
Halfhill (4-0) struck out five and didn’t walk a batter. Marty Fagler worked the final two innings, allowing no hits, two walks and two strikeouts.
Bud Murphy’s improved to 21-3, while Brownsville fell to 9-15.
