Masontown Legion evens playoff series
Single runs in the first, third and fifth innings were all the Masontown-Point Marion Fayette American Legion team and Wes Kisner needed Saturday to tie the semifinal series with Colonial 3 at 1-1. The final game of the best-of-three series will be played this afternoon at 4 p.m. at Colonial. The winner will advance to the championship against the winner of the Carmichaels-Connellsville series.
Both teams wasted little time with the game completed in less than two hours. Kisner and Colonial’s Matt Greene both hurled complete games. Kisner allowed eight hits, struck out six, walked one and hit one batter while Greene gave up 12 hits, struck out two and walked none.
Craig Hriblan spotted Masontown (12-15) with the first two runs. Chris Buncic opened the bottom of the first with a single, stole second and was sacrificed to third. He scored on Hriblan’s infield out. Hriblan took matters into his own hands in the third with a solo home run.
Masontown extended its lead to 3-0 when Buncic singled for the second time and continued on to third on a two-base error. Bob Epley doubled – one of his two hits – to drive home Buncic.
Matt Rechichar accounted for the lone Colonial (23-3) run with a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning. The visitors’ other extra base hit was Bill Gabonay’s double.
Ryan Jenkins smacked a pair of singles for Masontown with Mike Kisko adding a double.
