Carmichaels Legion sweeps doubleheader Carmichaels capped a 5-1 week by sweeping a doubleheader, 18-6 and 11-3, from California in Fayette American Legion Baseball League action Friday night. Carmichaels improves to 6-3.

Carmichaels trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the second in the first game, but exploded for 11 runs on 11 hits to firmly grab control of the game.

Winning pitcher Jay Zielensky struck out five and walked two. Shane Busti had a triple and two singles for the winners as did Andy Mazur. Jeff Lapkowicz and Matt Fanase both doubled to go with two singles for Carmichaels.

Matt Morich stroked three singles for California.

Carmichaels again trailed in the second game only to bust the game open with a big inning. Behind 2-1 after the first inning, Carmichaels posted eight runs in the top of the second inning on six hits, two walks and one hit-batsman.

Sean McCombs pitched to the sweep with two strikeouts and a walk.

Busti once again led the Carmichaels attack with two doubles and a single. Jono Menhart pounded out three singles in the winning effort. Carmichaels added extra base hits from Aaron Bowlen (triple) and Jamie Kowakczyk (double).

Mike Shumar and Shane Tonkavitch had doubles for Carmichaels.

Masontown 12, Perryopolis 11 – Josh Franks’ RBI-single in the bottom of the seventh inning capped a come-from-behind Fayette American Legion victory for the home team. Masontown improves to 5-6.

Trailing 11-10 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Adam Weakland scored the tying run on Mike Kisko’s three-base error.

Perryopolis led the entire game, with leads of 4-2, 6-2, 7-2, 11-4 and 11-10.

Adam Souply had a solo home run and scored three runs for Perryopolis.

Chris Buncic went 4-for-4 with a solo home run in the first inning, a double and three RBIs. Kisko sparked the fifth inning rally with a three-run home run. Bob Epley went 2-for-3.
