County League all-stars play in doubleheader Saturday

By Jim Kriek For The 3 min read

Local baseball followers can have a double-dip of their sport Saturday, not only watching their Fayette County League favorites, but seeing players from two other leagues at the same time. Two All-Star games have been scheduled for the Hutchinson Field, starting at 2 p.m.

In the opener, an All-Star team from the Western Division of the Fayette County League will oppose a similar lineup from the Washington County League. Then at 5 p.m. the all-stars from the County League’s Eastern Division will meet a team from the Penn-Mar League, comprised of players from Pennsylvania and Maryland.

In previous years, the game matched the County League with the Penn-Mar lineup, but this year the new format was voted on to give local followers the chance to see more players from other organizations.

Players from the County League’s West Division will represent Carmichaels, Masontown, Brownsville and Fayette City-Belle Vernon. Charleroi was not represented at the meeting. The lineup will be managed by Dan Kupets, Brownsville; Dickie Krause, Carmichaels and Clint Zvolenski, Masontown.

Starters for the West Division, along with their batting averages, home runs, and runs batted in, include:

Outfielders – Kevin Dvorchak, Brownsville, .476 (20-42), 2, 18; Lee Fritz, Carmichaels, .470 (16-34), 0, 9 and Brad Baker, Masontown, .378 (17-45), 3, 17.
