Softball/Baseball Cellurale stars as senior

Laurel Highlands High School graduate Cara Cellurale has completed her second season of softball at Baldwin-Wallace College this spring. The Yellow Jackets finished their season with a 22-15 overall and 8-10 Ohio Athletic Coference record.

Cellurale, a senior sport management major, earned her second varsity letter at B-W. She tied for second on the team with a .374 batting average with 40 base hits, including 10 doubles and four home runs. In addition, Cellurale drove in 23 runs and had a .57 slugging percentage.

For her efforts, she was named to the third-team All-Central Region Team squad for the second straight season.

Swinchock named All-PAC

Waynesburg junior infielder and Beth-Center graduate Haylee Swinchock earned recognition from coaches of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference by being named to the 2002 All-PAC team.

Swinchock recorded team highs with 22 hits and eight runs scored and batted .373 for the season.

Little League elections

NEW YORK (AP) – Howard Paster was elected to succeed Peter O’Malley as the president of the Little League Foundation, while Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver was picked as a foundation trustee.

Paster is the chief executive officer of Hill and Knowlton, Inc., and the former director of the White House Office of Legislative Affairs.

He follows O’Malley, who held the position since 1991 after taking over for William A. Shea. O’Malley, the former president of the Los Angeles Dodgers, will remain as a trustee of the foundation.

The Little League Foundation was established to stabilize and insure Little League’s future, protect its ideals and extend its benefits.
