Fayette City/Belle Vernon downs Perryopolis
Bill Calcagni pitched one-hit ball for five and one third innings before suffering an arm injury and Justin Murphy was perfect in relief as Fayette City/Belle Vernon downed Perryopolis, 10-2, in Fayette County Baseball League action Tuesday. Matt Chalfant got a lead-off single in the first and that was the only hit Perryopolis mustered.
Fayette City/Belle Vernon got all the offense it needed from Ryan Russell (double and three runs scored) and Jim Russell (three RBI on two singles). Pat Palkovivick had three singles for FC/BV.
Calcagni struck out eight and walked two, while Murphy fanned two and walked two. Andy Chopp had two hits for FC/BV. The winners improved to 2-3, while Perryopolis dropped to 0-4.
Charleroi 9, Connellsville Warriors 9 – Charleroi scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to forge a tie with Connellsville. Jared Essey drove in three runs with a home run and two doubles for Charleroi.
Perry Gaddis, Anthony Griffith and Ray Ansell had two RBI each for Connellsville, while Brian Sass tripled for the Warriors’ only extra-base hit and added two singles. Connellsville is 2-2-1 and Charleroi is 0-4-1.
