Frazier golf team posts first win of season Geibel Catholic 206, Mapletown 237 – Freshmen James McGrath and Philip Lucostic both had rounds of 3-over-par 37 to lead the Gators to a Division 2, Section 8 victory at Pleasant Valley Country Club.

The Gators improved to 8-4 in the section and 8-5 overall.

Andrew Broadwater shot a 38 for Geibel while Jeff Dennis had a 46. Matt Mascia and Zack Bell both shot 48s.

Joe Clites was the low man for Mapletown with a 41. Chris Petrick had a 45 and Zach Cumberland shot a 48. Matt Brown finished with a 49, and Cory Dillinger closed the scoring with a 54.Boys cross countryGirls cross country

Brownsville 15, Washington 50; Brownsville 15, Burgettstown 50; Burgettstown 15, Washington 50 – The Falcons had no problem winning their fifth Section 3-AA title in a row, easily sweeping a triangular at Washington.

Brownsville (7-0, 9-0) has now won 41 consecutive section meets and is 57-1 overall in the past five seasons.

With Amber Jackson and Angela Fraley held out in preparation for Thursday’s county meet, Julie Kromer stepped up to finish first Brownsville and second to Washington’s Ellie Briggs. Jill McClelland was third overall and Jenna Jackson was fifth for the Lady Falcons.

Brownsville dominated the top 10 with Amanda Mitchell (seventh), Dana Sassano (eighth), Erica Taylor (ninth) and Brittany Merritt (10th).

Fort Cherry 19, Frazier 36 – Fort Cherry’s Ally Brown was all by herself in first, leading a sweep of the top three places to assure the Rangers a Section 3-AA victory.

Rebecca Leary finished fourth for the Lady Commodores in 22:15. Katie Venneri was sixth, Andrea Puskar seventh and Erica Livingstone finished ninth. Erica Sendek rounded out the top 10.

Chartiers-Houston 19, Waynesburg Central 36; Waynesburg Central 15, Avella 50; Chartiers-Houston 15, Avella 50 – Avella took the top three places with Lisa Mitchell first and Lindsay McConnell second, but the Lady Eagles only had four runners and could not win the Section 3-AA triangular at Chartiers-Houston.Boys soccerPerry Academy 3, Laurel Highlands 1 – The visitors built a 2-0 halftime league and matched Jessica Dubois’ second half goal with one of its own for a non-section road victory.

Whitney Sanes scored first for the Lady Dragons and Naomi Walker added a goal later in the first half. Sanes scored an insurance goal in the second half.

Lindsey Rose made six saves for Laurel Highlands. Jessica Victor turned aside eight shots for Perry. Laurel Highlands dropped to 4-8-1.

Girls tennis

Grove, Conlon advance – The Connellsville team of Kristina Grove and Beth Conlon finished third in the Section 1-AAA doubles tournament and will advance to the WPIAL Doubles Championships on Monday, Oct. 7 at North Park.

Grove and Conlon had no problems in the first set against Norwin’s Nicole and Natalie D’Antonio with a 6-1 victory. The Lady Falcons had some problems in the second set but held on for a 7-6 win by taking the tiebreaker, 7-5.

“They started off real strong, but they stumbled a bit in the second set,” Connellsville coach Don Campbell said.

Latrobe’s Karissa Walker and Jamie Sutyak defeated Indiana’s Chrissy and Candace Bungo, 6-1, 6-2, for the Section 1-AAA championship.

Butler C.C.C.C. 14, Penn State-Fayette 4 – Jeff Horrell had two singles and Mike Miskanin drove in two runs for PSU Fayette as the Roaring Lions ended the regular season with a loss against Butler County Community College.

PSU Fayette will start the W.P.P.C. playoffs at 3 p.m. today against Westmoreland County Community College.

Penn State-Fayette will need a win today to get into the double-elimination weekend. The Roaring Lions have the No. 1 record in C.C.A.C. conference at 7-2 and will start the playoffs next week.
