Lady Gator soccer team rolls past Beth-Center, 9-0 Megan Sopko and Kaitlyn Fagan each scored two goals as Geibel Catholic blanked Beth-Center, 9-0, in a Section 1-AA girls soccer match on Monday.
The Lady Gators rebounded after suffering a tough section loss to Southmoreland last week, 12-2.
“This is a big difference from last Monday against Southmoreland,” said Geibel coach George Dzavan. “We were able to give everyone good playing time today.”
Liz Sunseri, Katie Sunseri, Andrea Shepler, Gina Lesako and Katie Andyjohn also scored goals for the Lady Gators (6-6, 8-8).
Geibel will host Greensburg C.C. on Wednesday. Beth-Center falls to 0-13-1.
Laurel Highlands 1, Belle Vernon 1, 2OT – Katie Macioce scored the lone goal for Laurel Highlands as they played to a double-overtime tie against Belle Vernon in 6-AAA action.
Brooke Pennepinto scored the goal for Belle Vernon.
Jenny Smith had 24 saves for LH and Megan Mascara had 13 saves for Belle Vernon.
The Fillies (4-5-2, 5-8-2) will host Albert Gallatin today at home.
Boys golf
Carmichaels 213, Beth-Center 214 – Carmichaels evened out its overall record to 9-9 with a one-stroke, non-section win over visiting Beth-Center in a non-section golf match.
Sean McCombs had the low round with a 39 for Carmichaels and Beth-Center’s John Prekrel finished two shots behind. Carmichaels’ Joey Menhart, Jamie Bandish and Beth-Center’s Chris Sckena and Aric Ilko all finished with 42s.
“The scores today were a little higher than normal,” said Mikes coach Tom McCombs. “The last golfers coming in decided today’s match.”
Carmichaels will wrap up their season today against Geibel Catholic at Pleasant Valley C.C.
Belle Vernon 217, Yough 221 – John DeSimone finished with a 1-over par 37 to take home medallist honors, but Belle Vernon edged past Yough in a Division I, Section 2 match.
Dave Surovchak finished in second place (41) for Belle Vernon (6-7, 6-10) and teammate Joe Pirilla rounded out the top three with a 42.
Belle Vernon closes out their season today against Albert Gallatin at Duck Hollow.
Greensburg C.C. 200, Frazier 285 – Greensburg Central Catholic (12-0, 15-1) remained undefeated in Division II, Section 2 with a win over Frazier at Linden Hall G.C.
The Centurions took home the first six places with top-three finishes from Ron DeNunzio (36), Dave DeNunzio (37) and Dustin Dreher (40).
Frazier dropped to 1-11.
Waynesburg Central 173, West Greene 207 – Kellen Haines and Tom Rohanna shot under-par rounds of 32 for Waynesburg Central (13-1, 15-4) as they defeated West Greene in a Division II, Section 8 match.
Teammate Eric Churney took home third place with a 35.
West Greene falls to 1-13 in the section and 3-14 overall.
Girls volleyball
Cavevin 3, California 1 – Allison Zyra had 12 service points as Canevin defeated California in Section 4-A.
The scores of the games were 15-10, 11-15, 15-5 and 15-8.
Amy Wohar had nine service points for California and Mari Jo Bilitski had 10 kills.
California will host Beth-Center today at 7 p.m.
Frazier 3, Yough 0 – Vanessa Myers led with 12 service points and Jessica Stahl added nine as Frazier (4-3, 11-3) defeated Yough in non-section action.
Holly Smith added 10 kills.
Women’s volleyball
Westmoreland C.C.C. 3, Penn State-Fayette 0 – The home team swept the Roaring Lions by the scores of 30-26, 30-21 and 30-23. Teri Veno had 13 service points and three aces while Stacey Scrip served three aces.
Penn State-Fayette (2-11) finishes the season on the road Wednesday at Butler County Community College.
Westmoreland County Community College improved to 4-8.
