Yes, you can qualify for Championship Bowling Anything can happen in a one game match. Just ask anyone who has ever rolled one-on-one for a game.

One guy gets hot or one guy gets cold and suddenly the game takes an about-face.

Even a guy (or gal) who averaged 170 last year, for example, has an opportunity at winning the big prize on a Championship Bowling TV show.

That is why it is important that you take a shot during the qualifiers this week at Mt. Vernon.

With a number of guaranteed spots available for the “under 190” bowlers, if you fall into that category, there is a chance that you might make the show and then anything can happen.

And since you are competing against other bowlers whose skill level is about the same as yours, you have an advantage. It is not necessary that you beat the areas greatest players who have 230 averages. You only have to pit yourself against bowlers with skills similar to your own.

Then once you are on the show-look out! Anything can happen. And it usually does.

But, you have to roll the ball in a qualifier. If you don’t take your chance, you will never know.

YOUNG BRETT: Young Brett Schimmel was down at the Mt. Vernon Saturday, qualifying with the likes of past TV champs Ted DeFrank, Bo Umbel, and Dwayne (Griff) Riggar, and I was as proud as I could be of him.

He just made the switch from the YABA a short couple of weeks ago, and this was his first try at Championship Bowling, and he was great.

Brett showed no effects of pressure and played his own game right down to the very end.

His series of 616 not only put him on the board and in position to make the TV finals, but he showed beyond a shadow of a doubt that “under 190” average bowlers can stick right in there with the very best in Fayette-Greene.

Congratulations Brett, that was great bowling.

And, it’s nice to have you rolling with us this year.

MT. VERNON QUALIFIERS: The qualifiers for Championship Bowling down at the Mt. Vernon this week are set for t 10 a.m., 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. today.

There is a guaranteed spot awarded to the high series in the 10 a.m. squad.

There will be two squads on Tuesday at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m., and then the final night will be Wednesday with a squad at 10 p.m. There will be a guarantee for the high series of the night on Wednesday.

I should also point out that the Midnight rule is waived for Wednesday, so there will be an opportunity to roll twice that last night even if we start the second round after midnight.

UNDER 190 AVERAGE: Remember, if you had an average last season that was under 190, Len Beveloque at Mt. Vernon is giving a guaranteed spot for every 15 entries in the “under 190” category.

And that means 15 entries not 15 bowlers. So if three guys happen to roll five times a piece during the week of qualifiers, they have established a guaranteed spot on the TV show. Thus it benefits every under 190 bowler to roll more than once.

BRUNSWICK 51 LANES: Our next stop for the TV show is Brunswick 51 Lanes.

The posted times are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday (Oct. 28, 29 and 31) from 9:30 p.m. till midnight.

Then Sunday, Nov. 2, there will be a squad at 2:30 p.m. with the possibility of another squad earlier in the day at 10 a.m.

We will finish up the last week there with squads at 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday (Nov. 4, 5 and 7).

The first Monday, the squad on Sunday (both squads if the second is available) and last Thursday will have automatic guaranteed spots.

I think going to Brunswick 51 could be a great benefit to Championship Bowling because it is the home of multiple champion, Dave Davison and last year’s Grand Champion, Jim Yex.

They have been promoting the TV show among their local bowlers.

And, if you’ve ever rolled there, you know it is a fun house for bowling.

I’ll see you on the lanes.
