California wins volleyball match over Slippery Rock
The California University women’s volleyball won its first conference match with a 3-0 win over Slippery Rock.
The scores of the games were 33-31, 30-28 and 30-19.
The first two games were very close throughout the entire game with a number of ties in each game with the Vulcans holding on for the wins. Freshman setter Allia Caresani led the offense with 44 assists, and teammate Jessica Brown had 13 kills and nine digs, and junior Dingding Lu had 16 kills and eight digs. Michelle Morgan (Beth-Center) added 16 digs and Katie Barker added 10 digs.
The Vulcans will travel to Juniata this weekend for a tournament and then return to conference play next Tuesday when they host division leading IUP at 7 p.m.
Waynesburg 3, Seton Hill 0 – Kathy Twaddle led with 18 kills as Waynesburg extended its record to 24-10 overall with a non-conference win over Seton Hill (30-25, 30-27, 31-29).
Connellsville graduate Kerri Petko had 11 kills and Katie Beall added 41 assists.
Waynesburg will resume play in the PSAC Championships on Nov. 1-2 at Washington & Jefferson College.
Men’s soccer
Seton Hill 1, Waynesburg 1 – Shane Krocker got on the board first for Seton Hill at the 2:46 mark in the first half and Matt Elban scored for Waynesburg late in the second half on an assist from Nick West as the non-conference game ended in a tie.
Waynesburg (3-10-2, 1-6-1 PAC) will play at Penn-State Altoona on Thursday.
Women’s soccer
California University 8, Carlow College 0 – Kelli Rees scored three goals and Christine Schiffner added two goals as California rolled to an easy win over Carlow College.
Terri Flaherty, Brianne Plute and Stephanie Hannan also scored for California.
Dana Galiffa had three saves for California (8-6) and teammate Amy Harbaugh added two saves.
