Laurel Highlands boots Uniontown in boys’ soccer action”Then they got that first goal, which I think deflated us a little bit. If we could’ve scored first, who knows what would’ve happened? That would’ve given us a big lift and got our guys pumped up.”

The Mustangs took a 2-0 lead into the break, then listened to their coach’s instructions and carried them out almost to perfection. “I told them they need to focus on possessing the ball more and we had to beat the other team to the ball,” Takach said. “That’s basically what they did in the second half.”

Especially Lukach and Fiano, who worked together well the entire game.

“Those two are the guys we wanted to focus on, and they still ended up hurting us,” Dunham said.

“Ryan and I have been playing together since kindergarten,” Lukach said. “We’d always be a team and we’d end up beating everybody else.”

“When he’s got the ball, I know where he’s going to be, and he knows where I’m going to be,” Fiano said.

The Mustangs went up 3-0 with 20:45 left in the game when Lukach took advantage of Skvarla’s mistake.”He stepped out of the box, but I had a little angle on him and I beat him to the ball,” Lukach said. “I had sort of a tough angle, but I curled it in.”

Fiano set up the final goal with 18:10 remaining with a pretty pass to Bryan Lipchinsky, who deflected it in.

Skvarla, who was under constant pressure in the second half, wound up making eight saves.

Dunham had praise for several of his players.

“I thought Colby Love played real well on defense, and I thought Clay Krysak and his brother, Tom Krysak, hustled really well,” said Dunham, who also commended Stone.

Takach was happy with his squad’s overall play.

“We really have no real stand-outs on this team,” he said. “They play as a team and are very unselfish. We have great team chemistry with no egos.”
