Four Waynesburg wrestlers top-seeded for section championships
The Waynesburg Central has four top seeded wrestlers for Saturday’s Section 5-AAA championships to be held at McGuffey High School. Chris Neidermeier (28-6) received a bye at the top-seeded wrestler at 103 pounds.
Coleman Scott (29-1) is also seeded No. 1 and will wrestle the winner of the preliminary bout at 112 between West Mifflin’s Bob Mitro and Bethel Park’s John Allemang.
Drew Headlee puts his 26-5 record on the line as the No. 1 seed at 119, facing the winner of Thomas Jefferson’s Ed Capozzi and Central Catholic’s Mike Timcho.
Rounding out the top seeds for the Raiders is Mark Throckmorton at 130, taking a 12-4 record against the winner of West Mifflin’s Aaron Pasinski and Baldwin’s Craig Bieltz.
Corbin Semple (22-10) is seeded second at 142 and will open the tournament against Baldwin’s Kevin Cornell.
The No. 4 seeds are Travis Conklin (17-9) at 160 pounds and Brandon Phillips (7-6) at 171 pounds.
Jake Superick (6-14) opens against Keystone Oaks’ Mike McGee at 135 pounds. Cody Whipkey (7-19) takes on Bethel Park’s Justin Irick at 140 pounds in a preliminary bout. Seth Patton (0-18) wrestles Bethel Park’s Jason Rae in the preliminary bout at 145 pounds.
Chad Smith (5-16) must wrestle into the 189-pound bracket against Thomas Jefferson’s Pete Sporio. Zach Patton (12-18) takes on McGuffey’s Nick Rawlins at 215 while heavyweight Bill Moorehead (6-8) opens against West Mifflin’s Shawn Gordon.
