Big second half carries Waynesburg women to victory
The Waynesburg women’s basketball team trailed by two at halftime, but rallied in a big way for a 52-44 victory over visiting Thiel Tuesday to open the Presidents’ Athletic Conference playoffs with a win. Waynesburg (14-12) advances to the semifinals against Grove City on Friday with a 6 p.m. tip-off at Washington & Jefferson.
The big difference in the game came at the foul line with the Yellow Jackets making 18-of-26 attempts while the Lady Tomcats made only 4-of-4. Thiel (10-16) held an 18-15 advantage in field goals with both teams making four 3-pointers.
Candice Eyerman was the lone Waynesburg player in double figures with 10 points, but Rachel Dillon, Ashley Urban, Michelle Collins and Tina Ramer all had nine points. Ramer pulled down 13 rebounds while Collins had 11.
Heather Abate led Thiel with 11 points while Amanda Swanson added 10.
