Penguins shut out by Predators
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Tomas Vokoun got his second straight shutout and third this season, stopping 22 shots in leading the Nashville Predators to a 6-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night. Greg Johnson scored a pair of goals and added an assist.
The Predators are 7-1-0 in their last eight games and tied the franchise record with their sixth straight home victory.
Nashville scored a pair of first-period goals. Vladimir Orszagh, positioned low in the slot, drove home an attempted shot by Jason York from the right point 45 seconds into the game.
Then Karlis Skrastins hit David Legwand with a pass just inside the blue line. Legwand skated through the slot and beat Pittsburgh goaltender Sebastien Caron with a wrist shot.
Johnson added the third goal with 8 seconds left in the second period with a wrist shot.
Adam Hall scored the fourth goal early in the third period before Johnson, skating in from the right circle, went high to beat Caron for his second goal.
Jon Sim scored his first goal of the season from the right circle, shooting the puck over Caron’s glove to conclude the scoring.
NOTES: Mario Lemieux made his first appearance in Nashville. … …Nashville’s Vitali Yachmenev has six points (two goals, four assists) in his last three games.
… Vokoun has given up only three goals in his last six games at home. He tied the franchise record for victories in a season with his 23rd.
