Antonelli has career game as Carmichaels rolls past California Carmichaels senior Christina Antonelli scored a career high 24 points as Carmichaels rolled to an easy section 2-A win over California, 65-24.
Carmichaels remained undefeated at 9-0 in the section and won its 15th straight game.
Meghan Wood and Amber Willis also scored in double-figures for the Lady Mikes with 16 and 13 points, respectively.
Katy Doman led California with nine points, including one 3-pointer.
California falls to 1-9 in the section and 2-19 overall.
The Lady Mikes will host Geibel Catholic on Monday while California travels to Frazier on Monday. Both games are at 7:30 p.m.
Mount Pleasant 43, Waynesburg 35 – Mount Pleasant (8-10, 4-6) went on a 10-2 overtime run as the Lady Vikings edged past Waynesburg Central in section 3-AAA action.
Ashley Felker was the only player in double-digits for the Lady Vikings with 16 points, including 4-of-4 from the foul line.
Jeannette Wonsettler led Waynesburg (10-10, 6-4) with 15 points.
The Lady Raiders will host Southmoreland on Monday.
Washington 71, Beth-Center 32 – A trio of Washington players scored in double figures as they defeated Beth-Center in a Section 5-AA game.
Jamee Bush and Amber Harris led with 14 points while Juliet Harris added 13 points, including a perfect 4-of-4 from the foul line.
Washington held the Lady Bulldogs to just two first quarter points and didn’t look back as they handed B-C their 13th loss of the season and seventh in the section.
Samantha Slagle was the leading scorer for Beth-Center with 16 points.
Beth-Center will visit Burgettstown on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
Chartiers-Houston 50, Brownsville 47 – Emily Briggs pumped in a game-high 23 points as Chartiers-Houston defeated Brownsville in Section 5-AA action.
The Lady Falcons rallied late in the fourth quarter and outscored Chartiers 20-13, but they held on to even their record to 5-5 in the section.
Christina Libertini led Brownsville with 16 points, while Gina Pelahac and Angela Smith added 14 and 11, respectively.
Brownsville will host Bentworth on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
Frazier 27, Jefferson-Morgan 26 – The Lady Commodores picked up their fourth win of the season with a Section 2-A victory over Jefferson-Morgan.
Brooke Carson led Frazier with eight points.
Shanna Yourchik scored 16 of J-M’s 26 points in the loss.
Frazier will host California on Monday while J-M will hosts Mapletown on Tuesday.
Boys basketball
Carmichaels 45, Mapletown 37 – Bobby Hathaway led with 16 points as Carmichaels defeated Mapletown in Section 2-A action.
Joe Clites had a game-high 20 points for Mapletown, including one 3-pointer.
Carmichaels will host Geibel Catholic on Tuesday while Mapletown will visit Jefferson-Morgan on Tuesday.
Bentworth 62, Jefferson-Morgan 56 – Jefferson jumped out to an early 23-9 lead, but Bentworth rallied back in the fourth quarter and exploded for 28 points to pull off the win.
“Their press hurt us and they just dominated the boards in the fourth quarter on us,” said J-M coach Jim Romanus. “They were getting second and third shots just about every time.”
Jake Chester led Bentworth with 19 points while Darren Yanacci and Ryan O’Donnell added 13 and 11.
Matt Ferencak led J-M with 16 points while Jason Kuharic and Jimmy Basilone added 12 and 10 points.
The Rockets return to section play on Tuesday when they host Mapletown.
Boys swimming
Laurel Highlands 104, Canon McMillan 79 – The Laurel Highlands boys swimming team extended its record to 12-1 overall with a win over Canon McMillan.
LH picked up wins in seven events including the team of Adam Collins, Zernie Parker, Kevin Collins and Jim Tesauro in the 200 medley (1:48.63) and Dustin Stalnaker (200 IM, 1:58.98; 100 butterfly, 1:00.68).
Girls swimming
Laurel Highlands 108, Canon McMillan 76 – The Laurel Highlands girls swimming team picked up a win against the Big Macs and bettered its record to 11-2 overall.
Sara Bonchosky picked up wins in the 200 individual medley (2:21.29), 100 butterfly (1:04.35) and as part of the 200 free relay team (1:48.49) and 400 free relay team (4:10.48).
Keri Smiell also brought home multiple wins in the 50 freestyle (26.69), 100 freestyle (58.53) and part of the 400 free relay team of Smiell, Theresa Reilly, Cara Dinsmore and Bonchosky.
Both the boys and girls swimming teams will host University High on Monday and travel to Ringgold on Thursday.
Women’s basketball
Bethany 73, Waynesburg 66 – Katie Hardie led with 16 points and Kelley Richardson added 14 as Bethany defeated Waynesburg.
Kyana Bradley led Waynesburg with 20 points.
The win was Bethany’s 11th consecutive game over the Yellow Jackets.
Pitt Johnstown 69, California 60 – California, the No. 3 ranked team in the nation and second ranked team in the East Region were defeated by the number seven ranked team in the East Region, Pitt-Johnstown (11-4).
Helen Young scored a game-high 24 points for Pitt while Melissa Patterson and Jamie Cicuto scored 15 and 10, respectivley.
Megan Storck and Becky Siembak combined for 32 points for California, and Sara McKinney added 10.
