By The 3 min read

Uniontown Area High School boys basketball coach Rob Kezmarsky has been added to the list of instructors for a special basketball camp scheduled to be held at Laurel Highlands High School on Monday, Aug. 4. The camp is being sponsored by Greg Beckwith, a former Laurel Highlands High School and Richmond University basketball star, and The Horse Will Drink Inc., (THWD) a non-profit foundation, which sponsors the annual Pittsburgh Hoops Classic.

The camp is for boys and girls ages 8-14 and will be held from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Kezmarsky, a former star at Laurel Highlands High School, coached Uniontown to a section championship in his first year at the helm for the Red Raiders. He was previously a head coach at Albert Gallatin High School and an assistant at Laurel Highlands.

Joining Kezmarsky as instructors at the camp will be Laurel Highlands boys basketball coach Mark John, and former Mustang and Duquesne University standout Nick Bosnic.

Also serving as instructors will be Mark Vassar, David Winfrey and Rob Davis Jr., all former Uniontown basketball players. Vassar starred at Youngstown State University, while Winfrey started for Pitt-Greensburg this past year as a freshman. Directing the camp along with Beckwith will be Marvin Wright, a coach in the Pittsburgh City League.

The emphasis of the camp will be on offensive fundamentals, such as passing, ball handling and shooting. There will be stations at the camp with instructors working on specific skills.

The Horse Will Drink Inc. works to help youngsters develop in all areas of life not just basketball. It sponsors the annual Pittsburgh Hoops Classic, which features all-star basketball players from around the country against the top players from Pennsylvania. It also hosts a preliminary game featuring the top players from Western Pennsylvania.

Uniontown standout Terrance Vaughns played for the Pennsylvania team last year. Playing in the preliminary game were Christian Jacobs, Dierre Jenkins and Winfrey, all of Uniontown, and Nathan Forse of Laurel Highlands.

Uniontown’s Brandon Duncan, Waynesburg’s PJ Shumaker and Brownsville’s Paul Hlatky played in the preliminary game this year.

The Hoops Classic’s Skills Contest has been played at Uniontown High School the past two years. The games were played at the University of Pittsburgh’s Peterson Events Center this past year.

The cost of the camp is $25, which includes a t-shirt.

Those interested in registering for the camp are urged to do so as soon as possible since space is limited. To register or to obtain more information contact Rob Davis Jr. at 724-438-8602 or Rob Davis Sr. after 9 p.m. at 724-557-8177.
