Mario’s post 5-4 victory in County game
Mario’s used some two-out lightning in the fifth inning to edge visiting Fayette City/Belle Vernon, 5-4, in a back-and-forth Fayette County Baseball League game on Friday. Fayette City (6-2) got on the board first with a run in the top of the second, but Mario’s (6-1) surged in front with three in the bottom of the inning.
The visitors retook the lead in the fifth when it parlayed four singles and a sacrifice fly into three runs.
Fayette City pitcher Craig Conforti got the first two outs in the bottom of the frame before walking Ron Dellarose and Brad Baker. John Harvey and Jim Cole followed with consecutive run-scoring singles to push Mario’s back on top by one.
Winning pitcher Chris Brunson made sure the one-run lead stood up. Brunson allowed 11 hits and one walk with two strikeouts in going the distance.
Conforti also tossed a complete game, giving up eight hits and three walks.
Brandon Dephillips had three hits, Bob Bowser doubled and singled, and Mike Herman also doubled for Fayette City.
Scott Van Sickle and Cole each singled twice, and Baker doubled for Mario’s, which hosts Connellsville today at 2 p.m.
