Perryopolis squeezes past Carmichaels Ryan Shetterly’s squeeze bunt brought home the winning run in the top of the sixth inning and an error on the throw brought home an insurance score to lead Perryopolis to a 6-4 Fayette County Baseball League victory at Carmichaels.
The Red Storm (5-10-1) opened with two runs in the top of the first, but Carmichaels (7-5-1) countered with four runs in the bottom of the inning. The visitors wasted little time, tying the game in the top of the second.
Winning pitcher Larry Christinas (1-1) and Carmichaels’ Scott Swinchock kept the offense off the board until the top of the sixth when Craig Kordich and Dennis Show singled with no outs. Mike Matras singled to load the bases. Shetterly successfully squeezed home Kordich and Show scored on an error.
Christinas had a double and struck out two and walked one in six innings of work. Shetterly added a triple and worked a perfect seventh for his first save of the season.
Tom Napwosky and Lee Fritz doubled for Carmichaels.
Mario’s 3, Redstone 2 – Ron Dellarose’s RBI-single with two outs in the top of the seventh inning brought Jason Greene home with the winning run after Greene singled for the third time.
Redstone went ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the second on Ken Musko’s double. Mario’s tied the score in the sixth when Brad Baker and Don Harvey singled and moved ahead on a passed ball. Ryan Encapera hit a sacrifice fly to bring home the first run and the tying run scored on an error.
Jim Cole (3-0) went the distance, allowing three hits, striking out five and walking four. Baker finished with a double and single.
