Cal women, men in NCAA tourneys; Lady Vulcans to host East Region
The California women’s basketball team is seeded No. 1 in East Region for the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Championship, and the Cal men also received an NCAA tournament bid. As a top seed, the Lady Vulcans (28-1) earn the honor of hosting the region, and will play eighth-seeded Millersville (20-8) in the first round on either March 14, 15 or 17 with the time also to be determined.
Their last meeting was this past Saturday in the quarterfinal round of the PSAC Tournament where the Vulcans rolled to an easy 75-59 win. California trailed in that game by one at halftime, but out-scored Millersville 45-28 in the second half.
The men’s team will travel to Charlotte, N. C. to meet Salem International (24-5) on Friday in the first round of the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship.
The Vulcans (25-8) were defeated in the PSAC championship game on Sunday by Millersville (24-5), 79-74. A game-winning, last-second, 3-pointer by Cal’s Ishmieal Kamara against Lock Haven in the semifinals on Saturday propelled them into the final.
